Activity #1 for EDUC 5855 involved picking an educational theorist and filling out a paradigms chart in order to understand their general views of various aspects of education. The attached chart is on Nel Noddings, who I was previously only vaguely familiar with. More than what I learned about Noddings, what was significant to me regarding this activity was how the paradigms chart itself might be a useful research tool when encountering a new educational theorist, in order to get a good ‘first look’ at their work. While the process itself merely involves doing a quick internet search and won’t allow the depth necessary to truly understand one’s views on education, the paradigms chart as an initial research tool could provide a great foundation for further inquiry.
