Childhood Self-Portrait

Childhood

This painting allowed to me to explore watercolor as a medium, while considering my own childhood and how innocence manifests itself in  my art. This piece is half of a larger piece containing a comparison of my past and present self.

For this piece, I compiled images of myself from old modeling portfolios, and scanned the images. Prior to painting, I worked on the images in PhotoShop to reduce the image, settling on the unfinished, light quality of the final product.

The Plan

I wanted to use watercolor for this portrait of my childhood self to capture the soft innocence of youth. The playfulness of colour afforded by the medium allowed the portrait to take on a child-like quality.
